The Office of Communications (OoC) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is responsible for disseminating news about IISc's research and initiatives to the outside world. Its activities include publishing a quarterly magazine called Connect, a research newsletter called Kernel, as well as regular press releases on new IISc publications.
About the Internship

OoC is offering two internships for entry-level science writers and students outside IISc interested in building their science writing skills. The internship is open to anyone interested in getting hands-on experience in science writing; preference will be given to early career/entry-level writers who wish to learn the basics of science writing and science communication.
The interns will be trained in identifying and writing science news stories and feature articles.
They will be expected to produce 5-6 articles for the Institute's publications/website/press releases. A total honorarium of Rs 15,000 will be paid at the end of the internship. The internship can be done remotely; however, if the intern is based in Bangalore, we would be happy to have them visit and work at the office on campus.

The writing sample must be a short ~100-word write-up in simple language on one of the following topics: 1) Science/engineering inspired by nature 2) Explaining your thesis/project to a member of the public.
